Callan Mulvey Interview

Callan plays Drazic, the selfappointed bad boy of Hartley High - and the biggest babe. He's rebellious, a little bit noughty, but he genuinely cares about his friends and has a vulnerable side that occasionally shows through.

DATE OF BIRTH ???

February 23 or 24, I'm not really sure which, in Auckland, New Zealand. But I moved to Australia when I was 8 years old and have lived most of my life on the northern beaches of Sydney.

WHAT R THE MAIN SIMILARITIES BETWEEN U AND DRAZ ???

There is a lot of me in him. I'm right into my scating just like Draz, and I have the mischievous muck around side too. He's interesting as a character because he's so complex - you never know what he is going to do or how he is gonna react to a given situation. And the best thing is that, as Draz, I can combine both my passions, blading and acting.

ARE U AS CONFIDENT AS DRAZ ???

I have moments of insecurity every day, A good chunk of every day is spent with me saying, "Why can't I act better, why can't I do this or that better?" I'm very self-loathing at the best of times. But it's good to go through that - I don't want to lose the perception of who I am. I'm a normal guy who goes to the toilet and eats and sleeps like everybody else does. But I'm becoming more confident. When I was in America I got my eyebrow pierced - I guess I needed to bust out a bit and try to be different.

WHAT DID U WANT TO BE WHEN U GREW UP ???

Everything, from a chef to a firman.

FIRST PAYING JOB ???

At McDonald's.

U'R CONSIDERED A HEART-THROB - HOW DOES THAT MAKE U FEEL ???

Celebrity doesn't fit well with me. I'm pleased to be a role model, but at the same time I'm a bit reluctant. I'm trying to get away from being put on a pedestal. I'm no different from the everyday man on the street.

WHAT ABOUT THE RIVALRY BETWEEN U AND REL ???

There's no truth in that. We are both such different people. I could never be what he is and he could never be what I am. I have a lot of admiration for him and think his work is just amazing. He's so himself and that's the thing I most admire about him.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO ACTING ???

I started blading at school and it ended up being an obsession. I was lucky enough to get sponsored and got to travel around Australia and America doing demonstrations with my friends. I started doing stunt doubling work as well, and then ended up in an agency. About 2 years later I got sent in to the audition for Heartbreak High and found out what I really wanted to do with my self-act.

FAVOURITE FOOD ???

Salad

DO U GET ANY SPARE TIME AND IF SO, WHAT DO U DO IN IT ???

In my very rare free time, I still love to scate, mix and record music and listen to jazz, hip-hop and percussion. I enjoy snowboarding and skateboarding, and I try to spend as much time as I can with my family. But Jon Pollard and I are writing a book and a film, producing experimental misic and doing some painting, so I'm pretty busy. We have an understanding that allows us to achieve anything we want to do.

HOW DO U WANT TO BE REMEMBERED ???

As someone who lives up to their full potential.

PET LIKES ???

Mixing records, skateboarding and rollerblading.

PET DISLIKES ???

Anything that's not real. I'm absolutelly fascinated by people who are real. There's one word that sums up what I'm aiming for, and that's truth. ***
